A few years ago, several community groups in Atlanta decided to address the issue of loud vehicles affecting their quality of life. This movement soon spread to other areas of the state.

Noise Detection Monitors are used widely across the United States and Europe. However, according to the Georgia Code, this technology is not currently permitted in Georgia.

In response, the Georgia Loud Vehicles Task Force was established to address the noise pollution caused by ATVs, motorcycles, trucks, and cars with loud mufflers or no mufflers at all. The task force is a grassroots group of individuals from across the state.

In 2024, we incorporated Stop Loud Vehicles, Inc., and later that year, we were granted 501(c)(3) status as a public charity dedicated to educating others about the public health and safety impacts of noise pollution from loud vehicles.

During the 2023 legislative session, we made some progress. In the 2024 session, HB1219 was introduced, which would permit jurisdictions to use this technology, though not mandatorily. Unfortunately, the bill did not advance out of committee, resulting in its demise as per Georgia law.

We continue to deepen our understanding of the public health and safety impacts of loud noise, as well as its effects on quality of life. While we work our way through the Georgia Legislature, we remain focused on educating the public about noise pollution from loud vehicles. Please sign the petition here!
